CAPRICCIO SOCIETY UCC

about

The UCC Capriccio Music Society
Capriccio is a newly revived society dedicated to the live performance of all kinds of music. In particular, we hope to give a platform to the less well known musical genres such as Fusion, Classical, Contemporary & World Music as well as encouraging new talent in all musical styles.

• We hold regular formal concerts in the gracious and attractive surroundings of the Aula Maxima.

• We have lively and relaxed jam sessions in Club Aras. Everyone welcome to listen or join in.

• We also do occasional open air events on campus (weather permitting!)

One of our aims is to give young musicians, singers and composers the chance to perform or hear their music performed in a formal setting. Music is too often regarded as a background activity but we believe that both performers and audience deserve a chance to experience live music in the special ambience of the formal concert setting. We look for your support in this.

Comments about the Capriccio Music Society
"The recent revival of the UCC Capriccio society is a welcome and important development for the university community. The inclusive ethos of this society also ensures that at any given concert there is an interesting and varied programme of music on offer. These popular events, which certainly enhance the cultural environment within the university, are also open to the public and have no admission charge".
Paul O Donnell, Head of jazz and popular music studies, UCC

"It was with great pleasure and excitement that I learned of the re-establishment of the Capriccio Society, not least because of the bold and refreshing form that the society has taken. Their commitment to diversity is something which, in my opinion, sets the Capriccio Society apart and is to be valued as a true enhancement of musical life on campus for both performers and audiences".
Kelly Boyle, Lecturer in Music

"The concert last Monday was FABULOUS! I loved the variety of the performers and the really chilled out atmosphere. The Aula Max is such a lovely venue for a concert, but can sometimes feel a little too “serious”, but the Capriccio concerts are relaxed and friendly, that one feels right at home".
